Mission 9/20/17

Focus: Trails and Triumphs of Missions

Week Three Devotional: “Sing of Courage”

Scripture Lesson: Psalm 46:1-5 (CEV)

God Is Our Mighty Fortress

46 God is our mighty fortress,
    always ready to help
    in times of trouble.
And so, we won’t be afraid!
    Let the earth tremble
    and the mountains tumble
    into the deepest sea.
Let the ocean roar and foam,
    and its raging waves
    shake the mountains.

A river and its streams
    bring joy to the city,
    which is the sacred home
    of God Most High.
God is in that city,
and it won’t be shaken.
He will help it at dawn.

Lesson 3

Using Our Spiritual Gifts

Study Texts: 1 Peter 4:10; 1 Corinthians 12:7-11 (CEV)

1 Peter 4:10 (CEV)

10 Each of you has been blessed with one of God’s many wonderful gifts to be used in the service of others. So use your gift well.

1 Corinthians 12:7-11 (CEV)

The Spirit has given each of us a special way of serving others. Some of us can speak with wisdom, while others can speak with knowledge, but these gifts come from the same Spirit. To others the Spirit has given great faith or the power to heal the sick 10 or the power to work mighty miracles. Some of us are prophets, and some of us recognize when God’s Spirit is present.[a] Others can speak different kinds of languages, and still others can tell what these languages mean. 11 But it is the Spirit who does all this and decides which gifts to give to each of us.

Objective: To identify and encourage participants to use their spiritual gifts to glorify God.
